The Craft
Real heat. Honest wood.
Built to hold both.

Around 175°F. The heat the research was done in.
Real Heat
Twenty years of research.
The heat is the point.
Researchers followed 2,315 men for about two decades. Those who took a traditional sauna four to seven times a week, at around 175°F, fared remarkably differently from those who went once.
63%
lower risk of sudden cardiac death
50%
lower risk of fatal heart disease
66%
lower risk of dementia
40%
lower risk of death from any cause
Frequent compared with once-weekly sauna use. Long-term observational findings, not a promise of individual results. Laukkanen et al., JAMA Internal Medicine (2015) and Age and Ageing (2017).
The Heart
In a hot sauna, the heart rate climbs toward 120 to 150 beats a minute, much as it does on a brisk walk, without the strain on your joints. Blood vessels widen and relax. Researchers believe this regular, gentle work is part of why frequent bathers saw healthier blood pressure over time.
The Mind
The same long-term study found that frequent bathers had a 66% lower risk of dementia and a 65% lower risk of Alzheimer's disease. Scientists point to better circulation and to BDNF, a protein that supports the health of brain cells. The research is still unfolding. The pattern has held.
A Longer Life
Heat prompts the body to make heat shock proteins, which help cells repair and refold damaged proteins. It is one reason researchers believe regular heat is linked to healthier aging. Estonian families never needed the explanation. They simply kept the sauna heated, every Saturday.
Recovery
Athletes use heat for a reason. Regular sessions increase plasma volume, so more blood carries oxygen to working muscles, and small studies have recorded better endurance as a result. Many people notice something simpler: they sleep more deeply and wake up looser.
The heat it was measured in.
Every one of these findings comes from traditional sauna: heated stones, dry air around 175°F, and water thrown for löyly. Infrared panels and steam rooms were not part of it. That is the sauna Moodem builds, and the only one we know how to build.
The Wood
Heat and steam.
Nothing else.
Every Moodem is built from thermally modified spruce. The process is simple to describe and hard to do well: raw spruce is heated to extreme temperatures with nothing but steam. No chemicals, no coatings, no synthetic treatment. Only heat and time.
What comes out is a different material. The resins are cooked away, so nothing bleeds onto the bench when the room is hot. The wood stops answering to humidity. It does not swell, shrink or move the way ordinary timber does, which matters in a room that climbs from cold to 175°F and above, then back again, every evening, for decades.
Our walls are 40mm thick. You notice it the first time you sit down: the room holds its warmth, and the bench stays gently warm long after the stones go quiet.

Thermal modification is unforgiving.
It exposes every flaw.
Low-grade timber warps, twists and cracks in the heat of the process. Flaws you could never see in raw wood come to the surface. Only select-grade spruce comes through intact, so it is the only spruce we use.
The reward is wood that resists rot, mold and pests, holds heat longer, gives it back evenly, and keeps its shape year after year. When the room is hot and you are breathing it in, what is in the walls matters. There is nothing in ours that should not be there.

The Build
Every panel locks into the next.
The heat stays with you.
Each panel meets the next at two points, a double tongue-and-groove joint that closes out drafts and weather. Insulation runs through the floor, the walls and the ceiling, so the warmth is even from corner to corner and the löyly stays around you instead of slipping away.
Where the spruce has larger knots, we fill them with a thermowood filler made for the purpose. It keeps the surface even and the wood sound. Small things, done properly, are most of what craft is.
Double Tongue-and-Groove
Two interlocking points on every panel. Tight against drafts, tight against weather.
Full Insulation
Floor, walls and ceiling. Even warmth, with no cold corners.
Finished at the Factory
Pre-oiled, pre-mounted, hardware fitted. It arrives ready to go together.
Knots, Resolved
Larger knots are filled with thermowood filler, for a surface that stays even and sound.

Löyly — the moment the air transforms.
The Ritual
You do not use a sauna.
You enter one.
The door closes. The world outside, the noise, the notifications, the decisions that never stop, stays on the other side. What remains is heat, wood, stone and silence.
The first minutes are adjustment. Your skin registers the temperature. Your breathing slows without you deciding to slow it. The bench beneath you is warm, not from a heating element, but from hours of radiant heat held in the thermowood. It holds you the way the earth holds warmth after a long summer day.
Then comes the löyly. Water meets stone, and the air changes: thicker, softer, alive. The heat does not just rise. It wraps around you. Your shoulders drop. Your breathing deepens. For once, you are not doing anything at all.
There is no screen to check and no setting to adjust. There is only heat, and your response to it. Fifteen minutes pass. Maybe twenty. Time behaves differently here.
When you step out, the cold air meets your skin and everything goes quiet. Your mind is clear in a way no app or second coffee has ever managed. Something older, and more honest.
This is not a trend. It is what people in the North have done for a thousand years, every Saturday evening, to stay well and stay close. Moodem simply builds the room where it happens.

"Real heat. Real wood. The same evening it arrives."

The Next Step
Now you know what goes into one.
One conversation. That is where every Moodem begins.
